Why this exists, in plain terms

Not a pitch — the actual reasoning behind building a slower, calmer way to learn from video.

The problem we're responding to

Most video platforms make money from watch time, so their defaults are built to maximize it: an algorithmic feed that never runs out, autoplay that removes the moment you'd normally stop and think, and a comments section engineered to keep you scrolling in place of the video ending. None of that is evil, exactly — it's just optimized for something other than your actual goal. If you opened the app to learn something specific, the platform's incentives are quietly working against you the entire time.

FocusTube AI starts from a different premise: you already know what you meant to watch. The job of the platform isn't to guess what should come next — it's to get out of the way, and to add something useful instead of something distracting. That's the whole idea. It's a small bet, not a grand one.

How the pieces fit together

A curated catalog

Every video is placed into one of seven categories on purpose — Business & Economics, Documentaries, Politics & Policy, Audiobooks, Finance & Investing, Philosophy & Psychology, and Motivational & Self-Help. Nothing is chosen by an engagement-maximizing algorithm. You browse a shelf, not a feed.

A real AI tutor beside you

FOCUS AI isn't a chatbot bolted onto the sidebar for novelty. It sits next to the video the entire time, aware of what you're watching, ready to explain a concept, challenge an idea, or just talk through what you just heard — while it's still fresh.

Attention-aware, not attention-extracting

The points and streak system exists to notice genuine engagement — sticking with something, checking in, thinking out loud — not to reward however many hours you leave a tab open. Attention is the thing being protected here, not harvested.

An honest privacy note

There is no account and no sign-up. Your points, streaks, likes, watch history, and chat with FOCUS AI are stored only in your own browser — nothing is sent to a server to be logged, profiled, or sold, because there isn't a server keeping that data in the first place. Clear your browser storage and it's gone. That's the whole model, stated plainly rather than buried in a policy page.

Still growing

This is a work in progress, not a finished commercial product dressed up to look like one. The catalog is actively expanding across all seven categories, the FOCUS AI experience is still being refined, and some parts are held together more simply than a polished app would suggest. That's fine — the goal right now is to get the core idea right, not to appear bigger than it is.
